About Melody
Melody Martinez is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who helps people understand the way their own brains are wired, and stop apologizing for it. She works with children, teens, and adults across Arizona through telehealth, with a particular focus on autistic and ADHD folks who’ve spent years masking to get by and are ready to figure out who they are underneath. She has a special gift for connecting with kids and a deep well of experience helping people quiet anxiety — from the kind that hits hard and loud to the low, constant hum that quietly runs the show.
Melody’s path to psychiatry didn’t start in a clinic. After earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona in family studies and human development, she spent seven years as an elementary teacher, mostly overseas — a foundation that taught her how people grow, relate, and get shaped by the world around them. Drawn toward healthcare, she went on to complete her Master of Science in Nursing at the University of Arizona and spent several years as a registered nurse before training as a psychiatric nurse practitioner.
Today, at Calm Psych, Melody blends her background in education and nursing into a holistic, evidence-based practice. She believes in the benefits of medication while also drawing on a broader, whole-person approach — collaborating with therapists, occupational therapists, and others to individualize each person’s care. Years in the classroom and at the bedside taught her that people don’t fit into checklists, and she doesn’t try to make them. Unmasking, self-understanding, and self-compassion sit at the center of her work: she wants her patients to leave sessions understanding their brains a little better and judging themselves a lot less.
As a mother of two, she also gets that life doesn’t fit neatly into a nine-to-five — so she offers weekend, early morning, and evening telehealth appointments.
“Understanding your own mind shouldn’t feel like a verdict handed down from above. It should feel like finally reading your own story in a language that makes sense.”
Outside of work, Melody is a devoted romantasy reader, a lifelong traveler who’s lived abroad in several countries, and a mom of two adventurous sons who bond with her over camping trips in the great outdoors.
